The Will to Rise

This artwork was inspired by the flowers I began noticing in places where flowers should not have been able to grow. They were pushing through fractured pavement, emerging from cracks in stone, and rising between rocks that seemed far too heavy and unforgiving to allow anything fragile to survive.

Their stems were delicate, but their determination was not.

Somehow, beneath all that weight and darkness, a seed found the smallest opening. A root reached toward something it could not yet see. It searched through the hard places for the faintest trace of light, and when it finally found that narrow crack, it pushed through.

Then it flowered.

There is something deeply human in that struggle. Life can bury us beneath circumstances that feel immovable. We can find ourselves trapped between what has already wounded us and what appears impossible to overcome. At times, the darkness can feel so complete that we begin to believe there is no way through.

But the flowers growing from those cracks remind me that even the hardest things are not always strong enough to stop what is determined to live.

For most of my life, I never noticed these small acts of defiance happening beneath my feet. Now that I have seen them, I see them everywhere. Each one feels like a quiet message placed in my path. Keep reaching. Keep searching. Keep pushing toward whatever fragment of light you can find.

I made a promise to myself that whenever I see something beautiful growing from a hard and unlikely place, I will stop long enough to remember what it survived to get there. I will allow it to remind me that the hard place I am standing in is not necessarily where my story ends.

The Will to Rise is about that instinct within us that refuses to surrender. It is the unseen strength that keeps searching for a way forward, even when there appears to be none. It is about the fragile parts of us that survive impossible weight and the courage it takes to keep moving toward the light.

Sometimes strength does not look like breaking the stone apart.

Sometimes it looks like finding the smallest crack and rising through it.
