Earthshadow

On March 14, 2025, the Full Worm Moon passed through Earth’s shadow during a total lunar eclipse, transforming into the haunting red glow of a Blood Moon.
I still cannot believe I captured this photograph with a phone camera. Barefoot and in my pajamas, I sat on the cold ground outside and leaned as far back as I could, trying to photograph this once-in-a-lifetime sight just above the rooftop. I remember the cold beneath me, the darkness surrounding me, and the feeling that nothing else in the world mattered at that moment. There was only the Moon and the quiet wonder of witnessing something so rare and powerful.
The photograph preserved what I saw, but I knew that one day I would have to attempt to capture how it made me feel. Earthshadow is that photograph reimagined through my own artistic perspective, deepened with texture, color, and emotion to recreate the mystery and intensity of that night.
You may have noticed how often the Moon appears in my art, and sometimes becomes the entire focal point. If you know the story of how Amy Ashlyn Art came to be, then you already understand why. The Moon has been a steady presence through some of the darkest chapters of my life, quietly reminding me that light can still exist, even when it has been hidden by shadow.

Earthshadow began with a rare moment I was fortunate enough to witness and photograph. It became something more when I finally gave that moment a new life through my art.
Another reminder that even in the deepest shadow, the light is never truly gone.
