Shades of Denver
Inspired by my own photograph taken in Denver, Colorado.
This piece began on the day we chased down the tallest building in the city, hoping to watch the sunset from above, only to discover that the space was hosting a private party.
But nothing, not even velvet ropes and signs suggesting I did not belong there, could stop me from chasing a sunset glowing only a few feet away.
While the guests’ faces were buried in their phones, mine was pressed against the window, captivated by a sky that appeared to be going up in flames. Gold burned through the clouds as the mountains disappeared into layers of shadow, each one revealing another shade of Denver.
A sign that says “No Trespassing” is sometimes more of a suggestion—at least, that is what I like to tell myself.
Perhaps I was born to make a little trouble, as long as it means catching even the smallest glimpse of what so many others are missing.
