Pulse and Decay

These two works began with a simple sketch of a human heart while I was teaching myself how to bring realism into my abstract work. As the heart took shape, I began layering it with shredded leather and lace, details that can be seen most clearly in Decay. What started as an experiment slowly became something that felt disturbingly alive.

Decay is what happens when pain is left buried too long. The heart remains recognizable, but it is splitting, darkening, and surrendering to everything it was forced to carry. It bleeds without apology. Its surface has hardened, yet beneath the decay, something refuses to become completely still.

Pulse begins inside that refusal. The heart is still fractured, scarred, and tangled in the remnants of what wounded it, but light has found its way through. It does not arrive gently. It breaks through the center like a truth that can no longer remain hidden.

Together, they tell the story of a heart caught between destruction and survival. Decay is the evidence of what nearly ended it. Pulse is the quiet, defiant proof that it is still beating.

We are born with hearts untouched by the hands of the world. They were never created to remain buried beneath everything that wounded them. The body remembers how to close a wound. The heart remembers how to reach for life. Healing does not ask us to forget what happened or pretend the damage was never real. It only asks us to open the smallest passage and allow something living to enter.

Sometimes healing begins with nothing more than the decision to stop protecting the darkness and let the light touch what still hurts.

The darkness did not disappear.

The heart simply remembered how to make light.

Both pieces are available as prints or canvas prints up to size 24x24 inch. I highly recommend canvas for this collection. Although the originals are no longer available, canvas allows the layered textures, torn leather, lace, fractures, and shadows to appear as close to alive as the originals themselves.
